History and Basic Rules Of Golf
Golf is one of the most popular sports played today. The more experience you have playing golf, the easier it will be for you to understand what golf equipment you will need for playing the game. It is suggested that you begin with four pieces of golf equipment: the golf pitching wedge, the golf putter, the golf sand wedge, and the golf driving club. The golf grip is probably the least expensive part of your golf ensemble, but the golf grip is a very important part of the golf club. The golf grip helps to guide your club to the ball.
Golf balls of course are a necessity for playing the game of golf. Each type of golf ball can perform different tasks and allow the ball to spin. There are golf clubs that take the edge off the spin, and some golf balls are said to do the same thing. Many people take golf seriously and spend a lot of time and money when buying golf clubs, golf balls, golf clothing and other golf equipment.
A lot of arguments exists about how Golf started. Roman emperors apparently played a relaxing game called paganica, using a bent stick to drive a soft, feather-stuffed ball. Over the next 5 centuries the game developed on several continents and eventually evolved into the popular Scottish game known as golfe. Golf as we know it today originated from a game played on the eastern coast of Scotland in the Kingdom of Fife during the 15th century. Players would hit a pebble around a natural course of sand dunes, rabbit runs and tracks using a stick or primitive club.
Golf's status & fame rapidly spread during the 16th century due to it's royal endorsement. King Charles- I popularized the game of golf in England and Mary Queen of Scots, who was French, introduced the game of golf to France while she studied there. Indeed the term 'caddie stems from the name given to her helpers who were the French Military, known in french as cadets.
The basic golf rules are internationally uniform for both men and women. A player is permitted to carry a selection of up to 14 clubs clubs of varying shapes, sizes, and lengths. The U.S. golf ball is a minimum of 1.68 in. (4.26 cm) in diameter; the British golf ball was slightly smaller, but is now the same size. The game changed considerably in the early 20th century when the B. F. Goodrich Company of Akron, Ohio, invented a lighter, tightly wound, rubber-threaded golf ball, which replaced the gutta-percha ball used in the 19th century.
A golf course usually has 18 holes spread over a landscaped area that customarily includes a number of hazards--water, rough, sand traps trees--that are designed to make the game of golf more difficult. Like many developments throughout golf history, the standardization of 18 holes did not happen as the result of a momentous decision agreed upon by many. The standardization of 18 holes of golf can be credited to St. Andrews.
